Isabella Rossellini is one of the coolest humans alive. She has written, directed and starred in a series of short, arty films about the sex life of bugs called 'Green Porno.' In this clip she is interviewed by an annoying girl with a goatee, and here she shows herself as an earthworm.
Warning: click on this link and hear a song that will turn your head into a candy skull. But really...you'll enjoy it.
Sugary like valentine candy, but celebrating a different holiday altogether, this gorgeous little creation by etsy seller ReFabulous is almost enough to make me want to get a cell phone. Do they make them in "call out only"?
I admit to a fondness for scrimshaw (growing up in New England will do that to a girl), so when I was digging around on Etsy today I was happy to come across this item for sale:
You are viewing a scrimshaw on a lower jaw bone from a deer. The bone has been bleached and cleaned, sanded and polished. The teeth have been fixed with polyurethene so they would stay in place. This bone scrimshaw is a signed piece with my initials, J.A. B. On one side the picture shows an octopus and a prehistoric looking fish. On back side is a scene of a pond with ducks, grass and cattails. The bone measures about 7 1/4" long and at one end 3 1/2".
These shirts are going fast (just a few Smalls and Mediums left, so Large shirt fans are out of luck), but here's the blurb anyway from Etsy seller eruditewit:
A nerdy take on the 'classic' AC/DC logo. Nicola Tesla is credited for the discovery of alternating current (AC) while Thomas Edison was a large proponent for direct current (DC). The history of the Current Wars is very interesting and you should all wikipedia it.
Heartbreaking works of extreme genius from Etsy seller hannapt.
Wonderful jewelry from Etsy sellers marybird and jessitaylor.
The following mysteriously showed up in my email inbox. The paintings look like travel sketches from another planet (or perhaps mockups of book covers for science fiction I really want to read); if only my transporter beam wasn't in the shop! I'd be there with bits of colored wood pulp (the purple and orange ones are worth more than the green ones these days) ready to trade and experience the joy!
David C. Kane - one of your better artists - has translated 101 of his most interesting images into the electronic form we find most stimulating. In exchange for small amounts of what you call "money", he will allow you to "own" and experience a delicious corporeal facsimile of each of these electronic wonders. This will occur in what you call December, near the festival called Christmas. Such a time is associated with the obtainment of such artifacts! You will do so!
Note the coordinates!: the temporal locus for this begins 6 to 8 "pm" "wednesday" "december 5"! The spatial locus will be "gallery 110" at "110 s. Washington street, seattle", "north" "america"! You have been warned!
But only if you don't mind some pain. Me, I self tattoo with Sharpies, because I have a phobia of needles and a short attention span, but hats off to those brave folks who go the permanent route. This is the beginning stages of a tattoo by Michael Sarao, and the image is from the back of the Halloween Tarot cards illustrated by yours truly. (He's the cool artist I'm referring to in the tag, I'm not that full of myself!)
Here's a set of curtains with the same design. Devilkitty will soon rule the world!
