It's been a while since I looked at puppy porn, because I have an adorable dog of my own now. But old habits die hard, and once in a while I troll Petfinder.com.
Today I found this little dog Bree: "I am a one year old French Bulldog. I am a very sweet girl and I love my new found freedom."
She was rescued by National Mill Dog Rescue in Colorado.

I'm torturing myself here. All the cutest dogs are in shelters in another country. Darn it.
I named my first dog after this guy. He's a character from a kid's TV show called Eureeka's Castle that I never actually watched. But I sure liked the toy.
What can I say? He's a four-eyed bat, too!
I just got an email from a guy who works at a famous toy store in Seattle where I used to work; they've started a Flickr account for pix of the place, past and present. Here's a shot of the bathroom I painted one summer; imagine a luridly purple wall and bright acrylic colors and you're halfway there. The overwhelming smell of hot fresh tar (the store was located next to a ship repair place) I leave to your imagination.
Everyone's doing it, why not me? Birds and Branches are a hot trend in art and design. You see Birds and Branches everywhere. You can't get away from Birds and Branches.
Now, I like Birds and Branches as much as the next girl, but I hadn't gotten around to trying it myself. It's not as easy as just painting a Bird and a Branch. Oh, no. There is much more at play here:
Tentative, thin linework. Check.
Pale, pale colors. Check.
Branches must have flowers. Check.
"Off register" look to colours. Check.
Ripped off from vintage graphic source (in this case, a Nina Ricci scarf on ebay). Check.

Here's a piece I did for a benefit auction for a gallery...back when I used to do benefits for galleries...and I liked it so much I ended up bidding on it myself. It was such a Morticia Addams moment.
