You're a picture of the Devil's daughter, I'm a pitcher of Holy water

72_prince_of_parties

Time to take a break from all the valentines.

Here's a little something inspired by this lovely bit of fluff I can't seem to get out of my head. Considering the setting of the song (an acid trip gone horribly right) the devil's daughter was probably meant to be a bit older, but it was more fun to draw her as a small girl. Besides, Old Goaty probably has more than one daughter, don't you think?

Krampus Valentine

Val_krampus

I love devils and I love weird vintage valentines, so this image speaks to me.

What it says is, "write your proposal for the upcoming Vinegar Valentines show at Looks Could Kill Art Boutique, get the call for art out, and do a damn poster by next week".

Antique Krampus Black Peter Figure

Krampus3

If one must endure the never ending cheer and awful music at this time of year, one should do it with Krampus.

Here's an ebay auction for "a very rare antique austrian / german Christmas Figurine. The Krampus is just about 13" high & 5 1/4" at the widest point. It is in very good condition for his age, little paint lost and dirty but this is old-age. The Krampus figurine is made of wire, wood, coated with fabric. He has a composition Head. In his front he has a Cardboard box, with Crepes Paper on it. This Box can be filled with candy or nuts. Please see also his full of caracter face. In Austria the Krampus Devil is the same guy like Black Peter in other Countries. I dont know the exact age, but it is probably from the 1920´s or older."

And if this one's a little too rich for your blood (starting bid is $249.99), here are a couple of less expensive models:

Don't bother the Devil's Ghost

Occupied

I've started a new category today; I thought I'd been bragging about my art collection all along and realized to my chagrin that, well, I hadn't. Some of these are going to be double posts from over Seven Deadly Sinners way, but oh, there is so much that I haven't shown you!

This is a piece by Rod Filbrandt which hangs in my "art" bathroom. I've only recently come to understand the joys of Toilet Art, and when I saw this I could not resist.

Moon Monster

Moon_monster_1

I've only ever lived in one place where I could see the moon from my bed, so my way of getting around that is to have lunar art on my bedroom walls. Here's a naughty little angel mistreating its devil toy, with Grandfather Moon watching... and a luna moth above them all.

I didn't even notice the leaves on the real plant look like the leaves in both paintings until I hung them up and stepped back.

More made monsters

Nov_4_demons

Just finished a couple more monsters...these guys are Krampuses (note curly tongues). The sweater Krampus on the left is for a show at DVA Gallery in Chicago (maybe), the Krampus on the right is made from an old pair of black jeans...and I'm keeping him.

Here are some Krampuses I made last year, and a piece I did for a gallery in California.

Left Krampus: Neck of a felted wool turtleneck, brocade, vintage fabric, polar fleece (tongue, for maximum curliness)

Right Krampus: black denim stuffed with lint and lavendar

Big thanks to Tom for help in photographing uncooperative demons and for the black denim

House of Stephen: the devil room

Devil_room

It's really impossible to convey the visual overload in Stephen's House; every surface (including the ceiling) is covered in fascinating things. This is one of my favorite rooms, a small alcove on the way to a tiny bathroom. What you don't see: a crazy mural on the ceiling. What you do see: some of the craziest devil collectibles ever.

More pictures of Stephen's house.
