12 Faces of Jack, with bat

12_faces

One of the prime collectibles from The Nightmare Before Christmas (bought at a now-defunct comic shop in Seattle, back in the day), limited edition, signed on the back by Tim Burton. I never hung it up when I lived in Seattle since it was fairly pricey and there was that pesky earthquake problem to consider. The bat mask is from a trip to Tijuana.

Four Armed Bat: Matt Cipov

4_armed_bat

Last time I was in Seattle I picked up this little gem by Matt Cipov, and I wish I'd gotten a few more of his pieces. The guy is a king of linework, and he can actually draw animals, unlike a lot of the other artists out there currently obsessed with wildlife. Take a look around his site and pick up some candy; he's super affordable right now but I'm guessing that won't be the case for much longer.

Don't bother the Devil's Ghost

Occupied

I've started a new category today; I thought I'd been bragging about my art collection all along and realized to my chagrin that, well, I hadn't. Some of these are going to be double posts from over Seven Deadly Sinners way, but oh, there is so much that I haven't shown you!

This is a piece by Rod Filbrandt which hangs in my "art" bathroom. I've only recently come to understand the joys of Toilet Art, and when I saw this I could not resist.

Finky's Dreamtime

Finkysdreamtime

One of the best things about unpacking and setting up my studio is finding my art collection again. I really missed my art, all that time it was hiding in a warehouse.

Here's a piece by Mark Mothersbaugh I bought at Roq la Rue back in 2003; apparently it's a portrait of his dog. I have a demonic little dog myself, so this one spoke to me.

Will this be my last Heshka?

Heshkadiver_2

I love the work of Ryan Heshka. Here is my latest acquisition, from Chicago's DVA Gallery.

When I find an artist whose work I like, I try to cap the collecting at 4 pieces. For one thing, you gotta spread the love to other artists. For another, if they're good, their work gets out of affordable range pretty quickly. I have 4 Biskups, and I'm glad I grabbed them when I did. I only have 3 Newtons, as they get smaller and smaller and more expensive as the years go by. At this point I should see if he'll do me a matchbook cover to complete my block.

The thing is, one of my Heshkas is a sign he painted for a show...that he gave me. So I ask you, does it count as part of the Magic 4?  Because the guy taunts me with images from his upcoming Roq la Rue show via email, and he's doing BATS, f'cryin' out loud, and I can feel my resolve slipping...
