Cyclops Kitten: Devil or Angel?
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
Psalm 17:8
Well, the Cyclops Kitten lives on. Not only is she in the running for "The Official Atheist Animal Symbol", but religious people have taken her under their wing as well.
I recently got an email from someone at this site, which seems to be all about proving Intelligent Design. He wanted to know if he could use the image I painted of the kitten. He wrote, "We will be considering your art for a series of postcards for the retelling of Cy's story. Are you interested in the Biblical application of Cy's story?"
Well, who wouldn't be?
I'm fascinated by the fact that people with completely opposing viewpoints have locked on to this one little beast and come up with absolutely opposite conclusions for its existence. It sums up why I don't trust "organized" religion, because people can interpret things in such different ways, and really...who is right?

The Cyclops Kittie is part of a vast right wing conspiracy. She was created by the Men in Black and is being used by the Shadow Government as a puppet to distract the populace from the fact that our world leaders are really satanic cult members from the order of Galactic George Bush Reptilians who are slowly commandeering the planet Earth for their evil agenda of Universal domination. The crop circles have been warning us for years, but we refuse to listen. Go ye and worship the hypnotic Cyclops Kitty because that is exactly what THEY want you to do. Say bye bye to your planet, Earthlings.

I hadn't thought of the conspiracy angle. I was too caught up in completely over-the-top-insanity like this quote:
"Show Me a Society That Aborts the Unborn and Euthanizes the Infirm...and I'll show you a society that immortalizes a deformed kitten."
No, I didn't make that up. I got it here: http://alesrarus.funkydung.com/archives/2124

I was wondering what you were going to do. Oh, the humanity...

Smelly cat, smelly cat, what do they feed you smelly cat? Once again, hillbilly simpletons miss the point. A cat has one eye, so therefore a carpenter from the Bronze Age must have built the universe from scratch. There can be no other explanation. These stupid idiots have been with us all along. They're the same people who ran Galileo out of town because he said the world was round. Just looking at them makes me believe in Mediocre Design.
Still, I am awaiting Cy's fiery return with raygun a'blazin!

Hey man, if the guy writes back I can suggest you as another "Cy" artist!

I live to serve Cy.

Pfft! I live to exploit Cy. Thanks for another opportunity!

"people can interpret things in such different ways, and really...who is right?"
Who is right? I'm going to take a wild guess: the ones who don't think the earth is 6000 years old. The ones whose beliefs correspond to, you know, reality. But I'm old fashioned that way. I believe that you have a moral obligation to give me all of your money and belongings, and, you know, whose to say I'm not right?

Oh, by the way, I think your painting of Cy is wonderful.

Thanks for likin' my little painting. The other Sinners will all roll their collective eye when I say I'm working on a Cyclops Kitten Easter image. Fortunately they never read any of the comments that are "below the fold". Ha! I'll surprise them!
As for what to believe...well, yeah. I'm firmly in the "evolution and explainable theories" camp. It's kind of amusing though to see the creationists coming up with arguments. As long as they are polite about it and keep it to their own websites and museums, I don't care what they do. It's when they start insisting that stuff should be taught in schools [instead of evolution] that I have a problem with it. See, the thing about evolution is that it's basically going to be the same teaching whatever your teacher's religion, and that's a good standard. I feel that if "creationists" (read: Christians) get to teach their theories, then other creation myths should be taught as well. Greek and Roman, Norse, Australian Aboriginal, Native American...they all have different ideas of how we got here, and they are all equally valid. Limiting yourself to one book (that is a collection of books, that has been translated and mis-translated for 2000 years, that has people fighting over which part is "real") seems pretty damn silly to me.

A Londoner with Brains, perhaps, but a sad lack of spell check.
