Monster Model Madness!

Monstermodels This is a DVD cover for long-time Calgary/Toronto musician Lonnie James. Lonnie also has a long-time side interest in psychotronica, which manifests itself in the building and painting of garage kits. His enthusiasm is such that, not only does he do a kick-ass job on his collection of kits, but he's also driven to create his own low-buck cable TV show! In the basement of his home, way the hell out in the nosebleed section of Northwest Calgary, he can be seen in his trademark wrestling mask, ranting and raving about the merrits of Oliver Reed's lycanthropic portrayal in Curse of the Werewolf, or the joys of the Godzilla victory dance in Monster Zero (one of his personal faves). He also composes the cool backing music that accompanies the visuals.
What is odd is that the show was picked up and has been airing in the late night slot on Channel 11 in Enid, Oklahoma! Following the standard marathon of faith-based/miltary/local-interest programming that one might expect to pepper such small market community access stations in the rural U.S. of A., resin replicas of Vampira, Betty Page, Frank, Drac and Haruo Nakajima now parade across the small screen to the delight of all the insomniac Okies...

Dm_eye boot Fun with shoes!

The Dr Marten's people are throwing a design contest, and everyone's invited! Here's my design, called "Watchful Eye". Click on the link to go to the site and see more funky footwear.
Most of the designs so far seem to be of the 'slap a random photo onto the template' type but there are a few I kinda like:

The Cat's Out of the Bag

Spreadin' the love, A Valentine A Day.

In my search for the Worst Valentines Ever, I have ended up with dozens and dozens of the Not So Bad. Instead of chucking them all in a box or giving them to my neighborhood scrap-booker, I figured I'd share them with the love-lorn world.

And then chuck them all in a box or give them to my neighborhood scrap-booker.

Most of these are from the 1930s to 1960s, with a few older pieces thrown in. The valentine sites I've seen seem to concentrate on sugar-heavy turn of the century ephemera, which I've frankly always found kind of boring. For the truly grotesque and the awful pun, you have to come forward a few years. Valentines featuring telephones, construction equipment and bad cat puns kick that naked fat boy's butt around the block!

"As you know, here in South park, we only have two seasons: Winter and July!"- Eric Cartman

And suddenly the snow is gone and it's stinkin' hot out - which is a-ok, especially if ya work out of your basement. Here's a cover piece for FFWD detailing the surpisingly vibrant sailing community we have here in Alberta. Apparently, Calgary boasts having the second highest number of trained sailors in North America! What th-?

Happy Mother's Day from Arkansas!

72duggar_seal

Michelle Duggar is pregnant again! This is a woman whose life's work is to ensure that the rare white home-schooled fundamentalist child is produced in enough numbers to keep it off endangered lists, and she is serious about her chosen profession.

In her honor, Arkansas is changing the state seal to reflect her hard and often misunderstood work. Interestingly enough, they didn't have to change much; the bird already had arrows representing the Quiverfull movement, the angels already had mom hair, and the motto needed only a little tweaking.
