(Kling-klang image to engorge.) You can tell that the temperature has gone higher than 18 degrees Celsius here in Vancouver when everyone starts to celebrate/run amok with fish-white feet on display, make constant exclamations about the crazy pleasant temperature, and express concern for all of the plant life that hasn't been rained on for a few days. It's a warm-wave!

Lucky you...it keeps raining here, crazy afternoon thunderstorms. At least it finally stopped snowing though. Two weeks ago.

No, I can't blame people for overstatement after months of rain, but I get a kick out of the way we pretend that 21 degrees is positively tropical. Nobody ever says, "why, this is a pleasant day." It's always, "can you believe this crazy heatwave?!" All while mindlessly wasting huge amounts of water on already ludicrously verdant lawns and bushes.

Three days after our last rain, the news was already doing stories on ways to "beat the heat."

But admittedly, the sidewalks are dangerously dry.
